This causes the task and the calendar to move down to the new place before I'm done editing, which is really annoying when there are a lot of tasks in between and it moves off-screen.

Deleting a branch is permanent. Although the deleted branch may continue to exist for a short time before it actually gets removed, it CANNOT be undone in most cases. Continue?
